Gentle Osteopathy for Babies in Bearsted & Maidstone
Osteopathy isn’t just for adults. It can be suitable for patients of all ages, including newborns, babies and young children. At Bearsted Osteopathic Clinic, we understand that bringing your baby to an appointment requires trust and reassurance. Our osteopaths are regulated healthcare professionals who provide safe, gentle, and age-appropriate osteopathic care in a calm and supportive environment.
Keira and Morgan both graduated from the European School of Osteopathy, where their undergraduate degree included dedicated paediatric training. Their studies covered infant growth and development from pregnancy through early childhood, alongside supervised clinical experience in a teaching clinic, including a specialist paediatrics clinic run by the university.
This combination of academic study and hands-on clinical training allows them to adapt osteopathic techniques carefully for babies, always prioritising comfort, safety, and your peace of mind.
Our Approach
Every stage of early life involves rapid change. From birth onwards, babies grow and adapt quickly as their muscles, joints, and movement patterns continue to develop.
At Bearsted Osteopathic Clinic, our approach to baby osteopathy is always guided by you and your child. We take time to listen carefully to your concerns, understand your baby’s history, and observe how they move and respond. Each session is tailored to your baby’s age, stage of development, and comfort on the day.
Rather than following a fixed routine, we work in a calm and responsive way. Techniques are carefully selected and adapted throughout the appointment to help your baby remain settled and comfortable. Treatment can take place while your baby is being held, feeding, or even sleeping. We are led by your baby’s cues, adjusting our approach to suit their needs in the moment.
Parents are encouraged to be fully involved. Whether that means holding, feeding, soothing, or simply staying close to provide reassurance. We also keep a few toys and simple distractions nearby, ready if needed to help little ones stay interested and content during their visit.
Our priority is to provide a peaceful, supportive space where your baby feels safe, and where you feel confident, informed, and supported at every stage of your visit.
What to Expect at Your First Baby Osteopathy Appointment
Our osteopaths are trained to screen for any medical conditions and will advise if consultation with your GP, health visitor, or another healthcare professional is needed.
Initial appointments typically follow a gentle, structured process:
History Taking – We discuss your baby’s journey from pregnancy and delivery through early development, as well as any events or changes since birth. This helps us understand your baby’s needs and guide the session.
Observation & Osteopathic Assessment – We carefully observe your baby’s movements, posture, and responses. Where appropriate, we may use gentle assessment techniques, including soft palpation, reflex checks, or mobility testing.
Discussion of Findings – We talk you through what we’ve observed in a clear, parent-friendly way, answering any questions you may have.
Gentle Osteopathic Techniques – Depending on your baby’s comfort and cues, we may use subtle cranial techniques, soft tissue approaches, or movement-based methods. Every technique is gentle and adapted to your baby’s needs.
Advice & Guidance – We provide supportive advice for parents, which can include simple exercises, practical adaptations at home, or recommendations for onward referrals if needed.
